The Jacksons Return to The Stage Without Michael Jackson

Three years after the passing of their brother and King of Pop Michael Jackson, four of the brothers—Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Jackie—launched their “Unity” tour on Wednesday June 20. The reunion has been bittersweet.

During a break while the brothers rehearsed on a Burbank, California soundstage, Jermaine candidly tells the Associated Press, “The brothers don’t know this, but I’ve broken down several times and cried during rehearsals…I’m so used to Michael being on the right and then Marlon, Jackie, on and on. It’s just something we never get used to.”

Today (June 25) marks the three-year anniversary of the Michael’s death, and also the second attempt from the brothers to make a comeback without their younger sibling. The first attempt was documented on the A&E reality series “The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty” that aired shortly after their loss. The brothers have wanted to reunite for years, but needed time to heal, Jermaine says. Marlon adds, “ For me, this cycle that comes around every year – this day, that day – that doesn’t affect me because it affects me every day…I still wake up sometimes and go, ‘Jeez. I can’t believe my brother’s not here.'”

The Jacksons Unity tour kicked off in Ontario, Canada at the Rama Casino, and will hit Detroit’s Fox Theatre, Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, and the world famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York where the then Jackson 5 won amateur night in 1969.
