UPDATE: Jennifer Hudson continues to add to her the impressive list of career highlights, now landing a big role in the second season of the NBC hit, Smash.
Hudson, fresh off the emotional trauma of the murder trial of her family’s killer, has been extremely busy of late, becoming a staple of the Weight Watchers brand and also announcing that she is designing her own clothing line for QVC. On Smash, the Academy Award winner will play a Broadway star who has paid dearly for her success. Smash is a series that follows the ups and downs of a play about Marilyn Monroe as it makes its way to Broadway. The show stars a follow American Idol finalist, Katharine McPhee, and also Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston and Debra Messing.
“We’re thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to Smash,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business, and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson.
Steven Spielberg, who serves as the executive producer on the show, added: “First Dreamgirls, now Smash. I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC.”
