Jennifer Hudson is QVC’s Newest Celebrity Designer

Losing 80 pounds and 10 sizes, Jennifer Hudson has discovered a new love for fits and fashion, creating an affordable women’s clothing line with QVC. After transitioning from a 16 to size a 6, Hudson has decided to design clothes for women who fall between that size range. Her experience with weight gain and weight loss makes her the ideal celebrity to launch such an accommodating clothing line.
“I feel like I represent every woman, I’ve been on both sides of the fence,” Hudson said.
One of Hudson’s goals for the clothing line is to design pieces that will make any woman feel comfortable no matter her physique. The superstar is expected to draw in a multicultural market as well as music and film followers. The star promises that she too would wear every item in the line.
“It has to be true to me,” Hudson told WWD. “I would not sign off on it if I would not wear it.”
Doug Howe, QVC’s executive vice president of merchandising, planning and sales, spoke about Hudson’s new business move, “We don’t overtly go out to target someone who is Hispanic or African American. We never look at it that way. It all starts with the person’s story and product. That dictates who buys it.”
The 14-piece collection includes a $75 sheer maxiskirt with a discreet lining, a $74.50 body-hugging knit dress and $50 leggings. Hudson deemed these prices reasonable and currently owns 300 pairs of the form fitting leggings. “I’m the legging queen,” Hudson said. “What I love about a legging is, again, it’s a piece you can dress up or down and it’s still comfortable.”
The most expensive piece is a $170 charcoal grey coat. The coat flares out into a full skirt. “It’s cut like a dress,” Hudson said. “It’s very structured and very classic.”
The actress and singer is “looking forward” to her collection’s debut. The collection is set to debut in September of this year, a new career venture for the 30-year-old entertainer.
