Billboard Music Awards to Present Stevie Wonder with Icon Honor

Stevie Wonder, legendary singer, songwriter and producer, will receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Honor this year.

Wonder, one of the most revered musicians in music history, holds memberships in other prestigious musical organizations such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Wonder began his musical career at the age of 13 after signing with Motown and has had over 32 number 1 hits. He is also the winner of 22 Grammy awards.

In 2009, Wonder was named the United Nations Messenger of Peace. In 2008 Billboard magazine named him as number five on a list of Hot 100 All-Time Artists.

The awards will be hosted by Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell of the ABC hit comedy “Modern Family.” Other stars scheduled to appear include Brandy, Monica and Wiz Khalifa.

Adele, LMFAO, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne lead as finalists for awards. Adele, who leads with 18 nominations in different categories, is closely followed by LMFAO with 17. Rihanna, who led last year with 18 nominations, has 13 this year; she is followed by Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne, who both have ten nominations.

The BBMA’s will be hosted in Las Vegas and will air live on ABC 8 p.m. E.T. on May 20 in the MGM Grand Arena.
