Edgar Wright Tapped To Direct Johnny Depp In 'The Night Stalker'

Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, has signed on to direct Johnny Depp in Disney’s The Night Stalker according to Deadline.

The movie is based on ABC’s 1974 television series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. The show, which was remade in 2005, was about an investigative reporter, Carl Kolchak, who investigates strange murders, often involving werewolves, vampires, zombies, aliens and other supernatural beasties believing they are somehow linked to his wife’s killing.

Depp will play Kolchak, and also holds the role of producer along with his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski.

Both Depp and Wright are very busy these days. The Pirates of The Caribbean actor is involved in numerous films such as Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and The Lone Ranger. Wright’s upcoming projects include the Disney/Marvel collaboration Ant Man, and writing The World’s End with Simon Pegg.

An expected shoot date has not been determined yet, being that no writer has been named as of yet, so it may be a while before The Night Stalker hits theaters.
