Kerry Washington revealed her surprising optimism for the state of black women in Hollywood. While Golden Globe winner Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis highlight the continued struggle for black women in the industry, Washington sees the bright side.
The ‘Scandal’ actress covers the March issue of Essence magazine which also highlights other black women in Hollywood including Shonda Rhimes, Octavia Spencer, Paula Patton and Pam Grier.
In the issue Washington states, “I think it’s a really special time to be a woman of color in this business. The landscape of who has the power is changing. We are in more influential positions and are able to have a say in the stories that are told. I feel very lucky to be in the business now…”
