Raking In The Dough: ‘Mission: Impossible 4′ Grosses $571 Million Worldwide, Sets New Franchise Record

Just when you thought Tom Cruise was on the outs for jumping like a madman on Oprah’s couch, the A-list actor comes back with another hit movie.

“Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” which stars Cruise and Jeremy Renner has made over $200 million in North America and $369 million internationally as of Sunday, January 29. That total has outgrossed “Mission: Impossible 2”, which made $546.4 million globally. Ghost Protocol is now the highest grossing film in the franchise’s history totaling $571 million in sales worldwide, and counting.

The latest Mission Impossible film, which continues the story about IMF operative Ethan Hunt, stood at the top of the overseas’ charts this weekend from 7,837 locations across 63 markets. The largest of the openings was in China.

The movie was written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, and produced by Cruise, J. J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.

“Brad Bird, Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and the entire team who worked on M:I4 created an incredibly entertaining film, one that fans worldwide embraced in record numbers,” said Rob Moore, Paramount’s Vice Chairman.

The film opened exclusively in IMAX on December 16th, and everywhere else on the 21st of December.
