Judge Gives Michael Douglas' Son An Extra 4 1/2 Years For Drug Possession

Cameron Douglas, the troubled son of Oscar winning actor Michael Douglas was given more time in prison.

The 33-year-old is currently serving five years in the slammer for drug trafficking but was sentenced to an extra 4 1/2 years for drug possessing while in prison. “I feel ashamed,’ Douglas said before he was sentenced.

In a letter to the judge, Douglas pleaded that he was “saturated in my own shame and penitence,” and begged for “the opportunity to build myself and gain the tools I need to shape my future. I feel so strongly, for the first time in my life, that I am truly ripe for positive reform and real achievement.”

The federal prosecutors had only asked for Douglas, who originally turned state’s evidence to get a lessor sentence, to serve an extra two years. Judge Richard Berman thought different, sentencing him to 4 1/2 years, a two-year ban from family visits, immediate drug treatment, and a $4,000 fine, saying he was “reckless, disruptive and non-compliant.” Berman also added that Douglas had “blown the biggest opportunity of his life.”

Michael Douglas did not attend the court proceeding.
