Will Ferrell Receives The Funny Man Award

Last night (October 23), Will Ferrell won the Mark Twain Award, which is the nation’s top humor accolade. The ceremony was held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Fellow comedians praised the Hollywood star. “Saturday Night Live’sAndy Sandberg said, “I think everyone working in comedy owes something to Will. He’s like a force of nature.”

“SNL” regular Molly Shannon said, “If you look at the list of incredible people who have previously received this prize, it makes me smile that WIll’s agents and managers clearly bought this for him to keep him happy.”

Will Ferrell’s first shot at the spotlight was when he joined the cast of “SNL” in 1995. After proving himself, he was offered several movie roles, including parts in “Austin Powers” and “Zoolander” and leading parts in “Elf” and “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”

When asked about receiving the award, Ferrell described the honor as “extremely surreal.” “To have all these wonderful people speak on my behalf [is] incredible,” he said.
